1The legal representative of a child may choose and assign, independently, a defence counsel, taking into account the best interest of the child.
2If a child in conflict with the law fails to choose a defence counsel, the competent body performing the respective procedural action shall assign immediately the defence counsel according to the provisions of the Code and special laws on legal aid, to the extent it does not contradict this Code.
